WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, President Trump signed a toothless executive order that amounts to asking pharmaceutical corporations to voluntarily lower drug prices without any legal authority, binding mandate, or plan to hold them accountable.
In response to this news, Popular Democracy in Action co-executive directors Analilia Mejia and DaMareo Cooper released the following statement:
“Trump just handed Big Pharma a gift-wrapped invitation to keep price gouging us. Suggesting drug companies voluntarily lower prices is not a plan — it’s a scam.
The Popular Democracy in Action network fought hard to win the right for Medicare to negotiate drug prices — one of the most popular provisions of the Inflation Reduction Act — all for Trump to undo that progress with a single stroke of his pen. While Trump and his party push to gut Medicaid and Medicare, and kick millions off their healthcare to fund tax breaks for billionaires, this latest stunt should stand as a brutal reminder: Republicans will side with corporations and billionaires every time, no matter the cost to working Americans.”
