Statement on President Trump’s Executive Order Delaying Medicare Drug Price Negotiation Process

NEW YORK, NY — In response to President Trump’s executive order instructing the Department of Health and Human Services to delay the Medicare drug price negotiation process, Popular Democracy in Action released the following statement:

“On Tuesday, President Trump signed an executive order instructing the Department of Health and Human Services to delay the Medicare drug price negotiation process, a cruel and heartless move that will keep our communities paying skyrocketing prices for lifesaving medications. The Popular Democracy in Action network and our allies fought for years to win Medicare drug price negotiation power through the Inflation Reduction Act, and since its passing, greedy pharmaceutical companies have worked to reverse the bill through multiple lawsuits in federal court and a lobbying push in Congress. Now, President Trump is doing their bidding, undermining transformational healthcare legislation for the sole purpose of pleasing corporations that care more about profits than people.

Through this executive order, as well as through mass cuts to staff at HHS and CDC and through proposed mass cuts to Medicaid, President Trump is attacking our entire healthcare infrastructure, making it even more expensive and difficult for people to get the care they need to survive. Popular Democracy in Action will continue to fight back, will protect our communities from Trump’s violent policies, and will work to make healthcare a human right in America.”
